چکیده

Soliton switching in a nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC) with Kerr nonlinearity and coupling constant dispersion (caused by intermodal dispersion between the symmetric and the anti-symmetric modes of the coupler) is studied using the well-known variational method. Switching characteristics are calculated and discussed. It is shown that the switching characteristics of the Kerr coupler for all the pulses, with pulse width ranging from 10 to 100 fs, are identical for a given value of the coupling coefficient. The effect of the coupling coefficient on the critical energy for switching is studied and discussed. The amplitude and pulse width variations inside the coupler are presented, discussed and compared with the result of our numerical calculation of soliton evolution inside the coupler. Soliton Switching in Fiber Coupler with Periodically Modulated Dispersion, Coupling Constant Dispersion and Cubic Quintic Nonlinearity

In this paper we present the soliton dynamics in a two port fiber nonlinear directional coupler with periodically modulated dispersion and coupling constant dispersion that arose due to the intermodal dispersion between symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the coupler. The fiber material possessed cubic quintic nonlinearity. The influences of the coupling constant dispersion, periodically modul...

All-optical Switching Structure Using Nonlinear Photonic Crystal Directional Coupler

In this paper, a new all-optical switching structure is proposed and analyzed. Switching is accomplished by embedded Kerr nonlinear rods in the coupling region of a photonic crystal directional coupler. We show that by modifying the supermodes dispersion curves, the switch length can be reduced 22% with respect to similar structures. Finite-Difference TimeDomain and Plane Wave Expansion methods...

Soliton controlling, switching, and splitting in nonlinear fused-fiber couplers

We propose an exactly solvable model of soliton-based pulse control that describes the physically important situation when the soliton period is much longer than the length of the coupling region in a nonlinear fiber coupler. This case can occur, e.g., in fused-fiber couplers. We demonstrate that the problem of soliton interaction and switching in such a coupler can be reduced to a linear relat...

Designing a dual-core photonic crystal fiber coupler by means of microfluidic infiltration

We report the results of our study on the role of microfluidic infiltration technique in improving the coupling characteristics of dual-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) couplers. Using the finite element method (FEM), we evaluate the effective mode area, dispersion and coupling parameters of an infiltrated dual-core PCF. We use these parameters to design a compact and reconfigurable coupler by...

Stabilization of a (3+1)-dimensional soliton in a Kerr medium by a rapidly oscillating dispersion coefficient.

Using the numerical solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and a variational method it is shown that (3+1)-dimensional spatiotemporal optical solitons can be stabilized by a rapidly oscillating dispersion coefficient in a Kerr medium with cubic nonlinearity. This has immediate consequence in generating dispersion-managed robust optical soliton in communication as well as possible stabil...
